A Little Black Dress...

Here's another goodie I found during my recent Atlanta visit. A vintage Scott McClintock black velvet with gold embellishment off the shoulder dress. New with original tag, I got it for $4. Although it's a vintage size 10, still too big... I seem to do fine with vintage 5/6 & some 7/8(I'm a modern size 2.)

Since I collect vintage Scott & Jessica McClintock/Gunne Sax dresses, jackets & blouses I bought it anyway and will have it altered to fit.

Atlanta...

As I made mention in a previous posting, I just returned from spending a week in Atlanta for my birthday this year. Since living out here in Los Angeles a little over two years now, I always return home a couple of times a year since "Hollyweird" can drive one to insanity a FULL 365 days a year... of course I'm speaking for myself. Yes this town has lot's going on, eclectic mix of cultures, people, etc but it's no Atlanta... it can't be 'cause it's L.A(my snarky sense of humor.)

I was born & raise in Atlanta with most of my adult life living in North Atlanta. Does it mean that I will be bias and pro-Atlanta? Yes & no:

Pros
-Loved ones are there
-Cost of living half of L.A
-More green space & fresh air
-I'm a driver & truly appreciate the better roads and practical interstate design
-Lots of free parking
-People seem to get along and agree to disagree
-Etc...

Cons
-It gets DANGEROUSLY hot in the summer with July and August being the worst
-Political system
-A few VERY rigid Southern traditions are alive & well in 2011
-Organic food especially fruits & veggies cost twice as much if not more
-Closed-minded people outnumber open-minded people
-Etc...

My recent visit I felt more like a visitor... talk about a strange "epiphany" while waiting at baggage claim in Hartsfield International Airport around midnight listening to Andre 3000 "She Lives In My Lap" on my iPod Shuffle clipped to my jumpsuit. As soon as I walked out to my shuttle, the Summer night time warm breeze surrounded me with a familiar calm. A week later, after being stuck on the L.A.X tarmac in a plane a bit longer than I like after landing, waiting impatiently at baggage claim and on a super shuttle in L.A traffic...

I'm just happy to be in my bed!

Vintage Travel Case

While in Atlanta for my birthday a few days ago, I of course made the usual rounds to my favorite thrift/consignment stores located in Smyrna, Roswell & West Georgia. My wonderful findings range from clothing items, bangles, hats & this vintage Jordache Travel Case. I already had a somewhat similar case but this one has more room for my must have weekend getaways & on-flight items, even my iPad!

Lookout for a fashion video soon displaying a few of the goodies :^)

Hot Days, Bright Delights:Look Of The Moment

From simple housework, loading & unloading plates during weightlifting and of course boredom, I went shorter. A fresh start since all of them are the same length at the moment. Not a bright look but I wanted something more me(darker n' rich shade) for my upcoming birthday.

Oddball...

"You were born an original. Don't die a copy." ~ John Mason

I saw this quote in my twitter feed today from motivational speaker Les Brown. It took to me immediately since most of life I've never fit in ANYWHERE.

Since I was a child I've always marched to the beat of my own drum but learned quickly that "one doesn't do such" from others. I was fortunate to have parents who would just let me be, which gave me somewhat of an optimistic view of my character. When I became a teen(those darn teen years... UGH) although I've always held a bit steadfast in my personal morals, trying to fit in became something I thought would make my life easier. Conformity always seem like the answer to a smooth sailing life; don't be difficult, follow others, get in line, join the heard! Does it work? Speaking from my own experience.... HELL NO! What conformity does to one that was not meant to follow:

-Cause frustration
-Dims that internal spark
-Drive you nuts

I look back on my late teen years when I finally start to search for that little girl & asked her to teach me that funky 808 dance she created. To this day, I can do it at anytime. Even in my sleep.

Btw... in every heard of sheep there's always a black one that will never blend in no matter how hard they try... BAH BAH!

"I want to be seen in green... you've got to be seen in green"

Being the VERY least of my favorite colors, I like this due to the frosty-olive tone.

This evening I topped my index finger with sparkly glitter!

Hot Days, Bright Delights:Look Of The Moment

Yes I have dark color on my nails... well kind of.

I grew tired of the grey. I wanted somewhat of a wild & fun look(the key here IS fun) so I Cracked my nails.

Hot Days, Bright Delights:Look Of The Moment

Color low-key, nails a bit shorter. Day 3.

As with nail color, I'll grow(no pun intended) tired of my long nails and cut them down. Plus I had a slight crack in the nail bed, left index finger I was able to repair. Didn't go very short this time & as always they'll grow back.
